The sugar-free, 8-inch pie was more expensive than the pies from Key Food, Costco, and Trader Joe's. It cost $6.29 when we purchased it. We were intrigued to see how a sugar-free pumpkin pie would taste compared to the others.
While Insider's team of taste-testers did enjoy the cinnamon flavor of the pie, the texture seemed chunky somehow. We thought it tasted vaguely as if someone simply mixed canned pumpkin with cinnamon and called it a day on their pie filling.
Wegmans has more than 90 stores across Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. After visiting the Wegmans in Brooklyn, New York, we were able to secure the grocery chain's pumpkin pie. It costs $9.00 and was the most expensive store-bought pumpkin pie we tried.
From the flaky crust to the delicious creamy filling with just the right amount of cinnamon and pumpkin flavor, Wegmans had it in the bag. From the more rustic-looking appearance to the delicious flavor, this store-bought pie blew us away and is definitely worth the couple extra dollars.
This one tastes oddly like a pumpkin muffin. There is an extra dose of sweetness here that takes focus away from the blend of cinnamon, ginger, and allspice and the consistency is a little wet. Not as offensively soaked as taste number one, but still off-putting.
Just looking at this weird patterned crust, I assumed this is our other frozen pie. After tasting it, if this is actually the frozen pie that will forever change my assumptions about frozen pies. This is easily the best pie of the lineup. Not only are the usual pumpkin spices all represented here: cinnamon, clove, allspice, cardamom, nutmeg, and ginger but they come together harmoniously, offering an enveloping wave of spices that is addicting to eat and deeply comforting.
But, if you brought a period-accurate pumpkin dish to your Thanksgiving celebrate, your family might not be very happy. So, instead of hollowing out that pumpkin on your stoop for a last minute alternative, play it safe and buy one of these store bought pumpkin pies instead.

I'm going to admit something. I'm not a huge pumpkin pie fan. I don't dislike them, I just don't love them enough to choose them over say, apple when it comes to my holiday pie eating choices. This pie couldn't be simpler: just bake straight from frozen. Really good crust, no soggy bottom, and the filling is well-spiced but not too sweet with good pumpkin flavor. Frankly, your guests might not even know you didn't make it from scratch, and I am not going to tell you not to hide the box in the bottom of the garbage can.
Consider this option a strong second to the Marie Callender's frozen pumpkin pie, which can be tricky to find. I felt the filling was slightly too sweet for my personal taste, but some unsweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream would help to balance that out.
The manhole-sized pumpkin pie at Costco will serve a good 24 people (it weighs nearly 4 pounds!), making it a great option for bigger gatherings. The crust is nicely flaky and the filling well-balanced. My recommendation is to cut into squares and not try to get wedge slices out of this thing; it is just too wide to make that easy.
At $4, you cannot beat this pie, and the filling was one of the best I tasted. The crust has good flavor but suffers a bit texturally, so I do recommend giving it a quick 10-12 minutes in a 400-degree oven to re-crisp it a bit.
