"I had this idea for a horror film about a pendulum. I'd been out and wandering around Los Angeles, and there was a woman who had a pendulum, and she was trying to decide what sort of bread to buy," Baines shared of how the movie became a reality.
"That's the special thing about the shadow fam, you know. I did a movie with Matt Daddario last year, and then doing this one as well, when you've worked with someone so closely for so long, it's just a dream to go back," she shared.
A comedy about making a horror movie. When six co-stars learn their hit TV show is about to be canceled, they decide to shoot their own film, unintentionally summoning a spirit with an affinity for violence.
"I didn't film that!" Another webcam horror! (Yet) Another Distribution Company (that's their name) has released an official trailer for an indie horror film called Untitled Horror Movie - yep, that's the real title for this, too. Also can be abbreviated as UHM. A supernatural comedy about making a horror movie. When six actors learn their TV show is about to be canceled, they decide to make their own film, unintentionally summoning a spirit with an affinity for violence. Untitled Horror Movie is another follow-up in the make-a-horror-film-over-Zoom craze (see: Host), at first mocking it, then becoming seriously scary as well. Or so it seems. The big ensemble cast features: Luke Baines, Darren Barnet, Tim Granaderos, Claire Holt, Katherine McNamara, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Kal Penn, Aisha Tyler, Kevin Daniels, Lesly Kahn and Sohm Kapila. It looks much funnier than it does scary, for better or worse. Check it out below.
Co-written and directed by Simon (The Girl in the Photographs), the film is set on computer screens and filmed in found footage style and will explore the behind-the-scenes lives of moderately famous actors who will do anything to save their careers and keep sharing their craft with the world. With their hit TV show on the brink of cancellation, six actors decide to film their own horror movie. In their search for a plot, they unintentionally summon a spirit with an affinity for violence, who starts picking them off one vapid actor at a time.
One of the most intriguing parts of this new movie is that the actors all had to film themselves since they made it while we were all under lockdown last year. That means each star had to do their own makeup, lighting, sound, and camerawork. We talked to Holt about how she managed to do the technical aspects, her own take on the paranormal, her future projects, and much more!
A strong comedy horror film with memorable characters, a strong grasp on what it can achieve and balances the comedy with some excellent scares. The characters are all very broadly drawn with very little beneath the surface though in some ways that seems to be exactly the point. Some are more memorable and prominently featured than others but the overall dynamic is strong and believable. Developing a horror movie within the film itself allows for fun to be had with the genre by holding a mirror up to the real horror that is happening. It makes great use of the available uses like unsteady phone camera, things happening just off camera and interruptions to internet connectivity among others. The film inhabits its premise and setup in really creative ways and manages to create some excellent scares.

Untitled Horror Movie is a 2021 comedy-horror film about six vapid actors who learn their hit TV show is about to be cancelled. So, they decide to shoot their own film, unintentionally summoning a vengeful demonic spirit with an affinity for uber-violence. The story is told entirely via computer screens and found footage because the film was shot during the 2020 lockdown.
The film centers on TV stars who team up to make a horror movie after their show's cancellation and unintentionally summon a demonic spirit, per Vanity Fair. The movie was filmed in 10 days total, including some reshoots. Despite not working with her costars in-person, McNamara said it was surprisingly easy to build chemistry with the cast.
McNamara told us that she was on board for the project, which was cowritten by Nick Simon (who also directed) and Luke Baines, early on. The actress previously costarred on Freeform's "Shadowhunters" with Baines and has been friends with him for years, so being part of the movie was an easy decision.
McNamara's experience with filming stunts for shows like "Shadowhunters" and "Arrow" also came in use while making this movie. Coincidentally, the horror movie's stunt coordinator and choreographer, who assisted the stars via video, worked on "Shadowhunters" as a stunt double for Emeraude Toubia.
